  • Having no outstanding sponsorship undertakings, immigration or court order debts, or bankruptcies.
  • Not having convictions related to violent offences, offences against family members, or sexual offences, whether inside or outside Canada.
  • Canadian citizens can sponsor while residing outside of Canada, while permanent residents must reside within Canada.

Additional Requirements

  • Sponsors should have the ability to meet the specific income requirements of the partner they intend to sponsor.
  • Legal marriage is not a prerequisite for sponsoring a common-law partner.
  • If you and your spouse have dependent children, you may need to sponsor them as well.
